Sharon is a grey nomad, travelling around Australia with her husband in their caravan. Whilst her husband is retired, Sharon isn’t ready to stop working yet. Besides travelling, she enjoys connecting with people and helping them.

Sharon saw a high need for carers Australia-wide and wanted to be able to help them even with her nomadic lifestyle.

She enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) with MAX Solutions RTO 0067, choosing to do it online, as it allowed her the flexibility to travel. However, a few months into the course, Sharon became ill with Covid and consequently suffered from long Covid. This forced her to pause her study for 12 months.

However, through the encouragement and support of her trainer, Shammi, Sharon completed her certification and is now a fully qualified carer.

Sharon says, “Shammi would keep checking in on me and gave me encouragement to keep going.”

During that period, Sharon was also assisting her elderly mother, living with dementia, transition into a nursing home. Doing the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) also helped Sharon come to terms with her mother’s illness and empowered her with knowledge on how to best help her mother.

As a qualified carer, Sharon easily finds work that fits in with her nomadic lifestyle and fulfills her desire to help others.
