    Raymond DES Ipswich DSA

For 37-year-old Raymond Jones, a combination of physical and mental health issues forced an end to his work as a labourer and forklift driver.

Along with his health concerns, Raymond also battled some memory loss issues as a side effect of medications he was taking.

“Just going into MAX and letting them know my situation, they were understanding and they’ve been there to support me through my health issues and that’s been really helpful,” says Raymond.

With the support of his MAX team in Ipswich, Raymond was able to look to the future and identify alternative career paths that might suit him and his strengths, while also working within the limitations of his health.

“MAX has been really understanding and taken into account all my needs when looking for work,” Raymond says.

With physical labour out and Raymond admitting he didn’t want to work with computers, his consultant Nicole suggested a career in security.

Raymond was keen and with his MAX team cheering him on, he diligently completed a Certificate III in Security Operations at Asset College.

With the right qualifications, the right attitude and support to update his resume, Raymond was ready to re-enter the workforce.

Raymond’s MAX team recommended him for a role at DSA Security and he was successful in landing the position.

His consultant Nicole Woodward continued to support Raymond as he started his new position, helping his new employer Stacey Dwyer at DSA understand Raymond’s health issues and developing a plan that would give him the best chance of success in the role.

Now he’s in work, Raymond is supported by MAX In-Work Support officer Peter Jeffrey who is available to assist Raymond and Stacey for as long as needed.

Stacey has been nothing but supportive of Raymond and it shows when Raymond shares about his experience with DSA.

“DSA have been an excellent employer. My boss has been super flexible. She accommodates my hours so I don’t have to work too long, as standing too long in one place is something I can’t do,” says Raymond.
“I can be honest with her and if I let her know I can’t do something, she’ll find someone else if she can,” he says.
“I’m glad to be in a new line of work that I can do without having much pain,” he says.

Stacey reflects on the changes she’s seen in Raymond since he first started at DSA.

“From that first shift where he did an overnight static shift because he didn’t want to work with people, to now, where he’s confident doing security at events – watching him grow and become more confident in himself has been amazing,” says Stacey.
“Our clients love him and ask if they can have him again next time, and the other guys love working with him too,” she says. “Raymond is a pleasure to work with, he’s like part of the family now.”

The MAX team in Ipswich is delighted to have been part of Raymond’s journey into a new career with a supportive and successful local employer.

Congratulations to Raymond and thank you to DSA for partnering with us to give every person, every chance.
