Giving you choice as you plan for the future
The School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) Program is available for eligible year 12 school leavers with a disability under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
We believe everyone can work if given the right support, and SLES is designed to provide you with assistance to transition from school to employment.
What can MAX do for you?
- Build your confidence and skills in self-direction
- Develop vocational planning and goal setting skills
- Develop and refine your career goals
- Create an individualised plan outlining your pathway from school to employment.
Put SLES into your NDIS plan
Eligibility for SLES
If you are just finishing year 12 and have a goal to find a job, you may be eligible for SLES. Your NDIS Planner will determine whether you are eligible and will record this in your NDIS Plan under “Finding and Keeping a Job”.
Once eligible for SLES, we can support you in achieving your employment goals through an individualised plan developed just for you.
We support you as you build your skills and confidence and transition from school towards meaningful employment.Contact Us
Tell us about you
When you visit a MAX office, you will meet your MAX consultant. We want you to feel comfortable with us and we will spend time getting to know you.
From understanding who you are to what interests you, what your goals are and what skills you already have, we will listen to you.
Let us know who you would like to be in your support network so we can get to know them. That might include friends, parents, other relatives or a support coordinator who you want to be part of your SLES journey.
With MAX and your support team alongside you, you have every chance of achieving your goals.
Your individualised preparation
Together with your MAX consultant, you will create a personalised plan and a pathway to meaningful employment.
Your plan will be unique to you and may include:
- Developing and refining your individual career aspirations
- Developing your resume writing skills
- Travel and workplace health and safety training modules.
Independent learning opportunities such as online training modules will also help you prepare for work.
We can connect you with a Psychologist or Exercise Physiologist to provide any health support you need to achieve your employment goals.
Throughout your journey you will continue to meet regularly with your MAX consultant who will support you through any challenges.
Participate in activities to prepare you for work
Participating in a range of individual and small group activities will give you the opportunity to improve your independence, confidence, social skills and communication skills.
When you’re ready you can participate in real world work experience in a range of industries including business, hospitality, retail, IT, sports, manufacturing and tourism. You will work with people from all walks of life, with a wide range of experience, qualifications and skills. Your individualised work experience placement will contribute to you achieving your employment goals.
Gaining an understanding of real work in your chosen industry will allow you to make an informed decision about the types of roles you would like to apply for in the future.
Your next steps
During your time in SLES, we will meet with you regularly, monitor your progress, and work with you to continually improve your plan to ensure it reflects your growing capacity.
Your MAX consultant will ensure you’re ready for work and will support you to move into meaningful and sustainable employment. You will also have access to MAXConnect, a user-friendly job matching system. MAXConnect puts you in the driver’s seat to navigate through jobs matched to your skills and connects you with potential employers.
Once you are approaching the end of your SLES program, we can help you transition to Disability Employment Services (DES) and continue to provide SLES supports for up to six months through the transition phase or until you find work.
