What Types of jobs can I work from home

COVID-19 has caused many changes to the way we live our lives, including the way companies do business. One of the positives, however, is we are quickly changing our perspective on working from home.

While opportunities to work from home have been steadily increasing for years, in the current climate businesses are rapidly changing what their workforce looks like and where they clock on. This means there has never been a better time to take the leap and ditch the commute! Read on to find out which jobs are perfect for you to work from home:

    Customer Service Representative

Every company needs a cheerful first point of contact to serve their customers. Whether by phone, email, or various online chat platforms, you would be responding to queries, concerns, or guiding the customer experience. Many companies have already seen the value of moving these types of roles to flexible arrangements.

Due to this trend there are lots of opportunities out there, you could start by looking at job boards of various major providers of banking, insurance and telecommunication services. These types of businesses are growing steadily and are consistently looking for staff.

    Data Management

With so many interactions occurring online today it creates mammoth amounts of data that needs to be organised. While automation continues to improve in this area, there are still many projects that require a human touch to ensure data is collected accurately. If you are confident with computer software and have a keen eye for detail this could be the perfect job for you!

There are also many opportunities to upskill and grow in these roles as data management becomes ever more important. Plenty of entry level roles don’t require tertiary education but starting with a Certificate III in Business Administration would be a great way to make your application stand out from the pack.

    Sales Consultants

As more and more customers do their research online, less foot traffic is entering the traditional storefront. Because of this, salespeople are increasingly being employed behind a computer screen. Communicating the benefits of products and ensuring you find the right fit for your customers can still be done without the face-to-face interaction. If you have a phone and a computer you can sell, making this another perfect fit to work from home.

    Social Media Manager

Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and the list goes on, with most people subscribing to multiple forms of social media, businesses know how important these platforms are. In this role, you would be tasked with creating and delivering content to your audience, engaging with them, and tracking your results. With all the tools needed to do your job online, this would be a perfect job to work from home.

If you can’t quite break-in to the field, start with your own personal network. Find friends or families with an online business presence and offer to handle their social media for some experience. Once you start building a body of work it makes it much easier to sell yourself to potential employers.

    Web Developer

A dynamic and ever evolving field, a day in the life of a developer is always different! Implementing creative solutions to create websites for client’s specific needs will keep you on your toes! There are many roles within this space whether testing, designing optimal user experiences, or creating the nuts and bolts of various programs. One thing they all have in common though, they only need a laptop and internet connection. Perfect to work from home.

Getting started is as easy as jumping online and checking out free code camp. They are focussed on teaching the ins-and-outs of coding freely to people all around the world. So, start studying and get to building that portfolio!

    Start Your Own Business

Have a hobby that you wish you could spend more time doing? Why not start your own online shop that focusses on your passion? Whether you create the product yourself, or are just better at marketing someone else’s, this could be the right time to become your own boss.

Setting your own hours and being in charge can be great perks but if you want to be successful be prepared for some hard work. Checking out the governments small business guide would be a good first start. The government also provides a ton of support in the forms of grants and loans which you can find out about here.
