Don’t be so sure about the best way to get a good job.
It’s widely assumed that the best way to get a good job is to attend university and gain a degree. However, new information from the Department of Jobs and Small Business suggests this may not be the case.
According to 2017 employment projections, total employment is to grow by 950,000 over the next five years with more than 90% of these jobs needing a post school qualification.
More than 40% of these jobs will be for people with a bachelor degree or higher, but that leaves over 400,000 jobs for people with diplomas or certificates.
What’s more, the wage gap between employees with degrees and those with cert III or cert IV trade qualifications are closing too. As of August 2017 those with a bachelor degree were earning just $200 more p/w than those with a cert, and this gap will certainly get smaller in the next 5 years.
