Everyone gets a little stressed now and then, but when it starts to negatively affect your health and well-being it may be time to take a step back.
Here are five simple ways to lower your stress levels.
Write down the situations that make you feel stressed and how you respond to them. Of these, identify what it is that stresses you most – if you respond negatively to it, see if you can change your response to a positive one.
You don’t have to be available 24/7 in a job. Make sure you maintain a work-life balance. Restrict checking your emails or taking calls after hours.
There are lots of activities that facilitate relaxation and restore calm:
Get support from friends and family and, if things start to get really tough, you might find it beneficial to talk to a professional.
- Keep track of what’s stressing you out.
- Set up boundaries
- Take some time for yourself
- Breathing exercises
- Listening to music
- A hobby you enjoy
- A good night’s sleep
- Ask for support and clarify what is expected of you. Come up with a plan to manage stress and your time. You could suggest changes to your workspace.
- Ask for help.
If you feel like you’re drowning, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
