Adam tending to water lilies at Suncoast Water Gardens, Beerwah QLD.
Suncoast Water Gardens
is a large production nursery located in Beerwah, 80km north of Brisbane, QLD. Originally established as a hobby farm over 25 years ago, Suncoast Water Gardens is now a well-established and reputable nursery providing high quality products, services and advice to retail nurseries and landscape trade.
22 year old Adam’s dreams came true when he was hired as Suncoast’s newest employee. With a background in horticulture and a love for the outdoors, Suncoast is the perfect fit for Adam.
“It’s hard to say the best part about working here, because I like everything,” Adam said.
“I like doing the orders, I like the variety in what I do. I love it out here.”
Unemployed for over eight months while caring for his ill partner, Adam gained his new job through the PaTH program with the help of MAX Employment Maroochydoore. Adam underwent Block 1 of Employability Skills Training before beginning an internship at the water garden.
Adam says the training prepared him for working after a short stint of unemployment.
“The training helped in a few areas. It helped with my confidence and my interviewing technique.”
Owner and Manager of Suncoast Margaret Vita says Adam is her ideal worker.
“Adam does his work; he just does it, no questions. I only ever have to ask it once and he does it right.”
Margaret says the PaTH internship helped her determine if Adam would be the right candidate for the role.
“I liked the fact that he was here for four weeks training. That was really good. In the past I’ve had people leave within the first two weeks and it just wastes time.”
Margaret says Adam is a valuable asset to her and the Suncoast team.
“Adam’s future is permanent here as long as he wants to stay here. He’ll be growing with the business and he’ll be a good asset. There will be other positions available for him to move up a bit higher, depending on what happens.”
Adam’s future is now as bright as the tropical water lilies he tends to.
